FOUR NEW TRUMPET MOUTHPIECE SIZES!
We keep getting requests for new SLAP mouthpiece designs in rim and cup sizes that have not been updated yet. But what most players don’t know is, we HAVE gotten around to updating most rim sizes to SLAP cups... but we prefer to wait a year or two to announce them as we work with clients and friends to make sure they play as well in the field as they do in our shop. Here are four new SLAP sizes that have passed the test that we are now pleased to make available to everyone!
B2S3 WIDE SLAP!
We first developed this wider version of the B2S3 for several co-workers here in our shop. They each loved the B2S3, but wanted a little more of everything - a bigger sound, bigger "targets" on each note, more room for when the chops swell, and a half size larger inside rim diameter. If you’re looking for a great all-around mouthpiece with the familiar and comfortable B2S3 rim and cup but just a little bit larger, this new B2S3 W ("W" for wide) is it!
Here is a video of our own Jason Gunderson demonstrating a PRANA B2S3, then playing the same thing on the same horn using the B2S3 W.
B4S S2 SLAP!
Players have asked for this mouthpiece for years - a SLAP version of our very popular B4S. We made up half a dozen prototypes with slightly different cup shapes and depths as we sorted out this new design. The winner is our new
B4S S2!
B2.5 S3 SLAP!
This new model has the same B2.5 rim and cup depth, but with our B2S3 SLAP cup shape! Perfect for anyone who plays B2.5 or C2.5 mouthpieces and wants all the advantages of a SLAP cup!
B1-5 S3 SLAP!
Jazz artist and author Scotty Barnhart has been a mouthpiece and instrument client of ours for over 20 years. When he found out a few years ago that he would be playing some split lead on a tour, he asked us for a new mouthpiece to make that job a little easier.
This new model is between the depth of a B1-5LD and a B1-5. In fact, it is almost exactly the depth of the B2S3. The SLAP cup shape and the "Maynard Tweek" at the bottom of the cup makes this mouthpiece slot easily and respond with brilliance and sizzle. It has such a big sound that it has now become popular with orchestral players who play B1-5/C1-5 series mouthpieces and want something extra zippy for "Pops" work, without having to worry about bottoming out over the course of the gig. Thanks for the inspiration for the new model mouthpiece, Scotty!
