NEW, IMPROVED #82 BACKBORE FOR PRANA TRUMPET MOUTHPIECES!

The #81 backbore shape I designed many years ago has been our most popular mouthpiece backbore since day one of PRANA trumpet mouthpieces. It is the backbore shape Wynton has used for years and years. But as we were finishing Wynton’s new RAJA III STC earlier this year, it became obvious we needed a slight shift in backbore shape to get everything we could out of this new horn.

We had a tool ground as a one-time special rush at our favorite grinding shop, and John cut a prototype threaded mouthpiece with the new backbore for Wynton’s RAJA.

From the first notes we knew we had hit the ball out of the park. The new backbore has a new sound - but still beautifully focused with no dispersion or lack of clarity in articulation. The new backbore gives the player more breadth and dimension to their sound, filling the room front to back and side to side with more excitement. This is what we wanted for Wynton’s new RAJA! As we all played it and listened to each other, it was obvious we were really onto something!

Now many months later, after making prototypes in many different sizes and in different keys, we all agree this new backbore is an obvious improvement for most every Bb and C PRANA mouthpiece we have made to date.
