NIKE MEETS MONETTE - THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY AIR JORDAN SHOE! When Nike Air Jordan head designer Tinker Hatfield visited our shop for the first time four years ago, he got an idea. Tinker knew Dave from the presentation Dave gave at the 2001 Nike annual designer's conference. When Tinker saw the saw-pierced decorations on pictures of Wynton Marsalis' and Ron Miles' decorated SAMADHI instruments, he realized how he could make the new JORDAN XX 20th anniversary basketball shoe truly unique. Like the decorated instruments we make in conjunction with Portland goldsmith Tami Dean, the new Jordan XX shoe uses two layers of leather with laser cut symbols depicting the life story of Michael Jordan. And like our decorated instruments, the shoes are a "soul retrieval" for the recipient, reminding them in symbols not only of where they are, but where they came from and who helped them get there! The story of our contribution to the design has been written up in ESPN Magazine, several althletic shoe magazines, and in Portland Monthly magazine. Posters of our decorated instruments were also used at the Nike exhibit announcing the new shoe in Denver during the week of last year's the All-Star game. Thanks to the crew
at Nike for the recognition and acknowledgement for participating in
the design of their new shoe!
