The Monette Approach to Design

At Monette we take a holistic approach to designing and building state-of-the-art, custom-built brass instruments and mouthpieces. We consider all the elements in performance: the player, the mouthpiece, the instrument, the performance room, and the audience as a communication system. The interaction of these five elements is the key to making improved equipment.

Monette Mouthpieces

At the heart of our work are our revolutionary, constant-pitch-center mouthpieces. Monette mouthpieces are designed specifically for each key and weight of instrument. The acoustic and musical advantages our mouthpieces provide are so important to our overall mission that most of this guide is devoted to explaining in detail what makes them so unique, and how one can best realize the improvements they offer. Monette mouthpieces also allow players to successfully use the revolutionary instruments we produce. Monette instruments are designed to be used only with Monette mouthpieces. This compatibility issue is so critical to effective use of our instruments that we accept no orders for our custom-built instruments unless the client uses or plans to use only Monette mouthpieces. Many of the instruments we make for players already familiar with our equipment actually have integral (built-in) mouthpieces. This means there is one less obstacle between the player and the audience, and therefore more connection, more intimacy, and more music.

Monette Instruments

Since the first Monette trumpet was made in May 1983, we have continually worked to improve our state-of-the-art instrument designs and to offer players the widest possible selection of instruments for every type of musical situation. Monette instruments can be heard regularly in major symphony orchestras, top television and film soundtracks, small group jazz settings, big band jazz orchestras, and chamber music ensembles the world over. We offer eight different base models and weights of Bb trumpets to suit the widest possible range of musical situations. From our one-and-a-half pound 2000LT to our seven-pound, decorated RAJA SAMADHI, our instruments provide a quality, consistency, and variety that we believe is unmatched in the history of modern brass instrument manufacturing.
