Dave's Travel Photos
Long time client and friend of the shop, Hal Oringer, in his New York studio posing with just a small part of his trumpet collection.  Notice his Monette AJNA Bb front and center.  Many of the best photos we have used in our brochures over the years have been shot by Hal, and we love him!  Hal recently had a quadruple bypass operation, and we wish him the speediest of recoveries!
Dave Monette visited New York and worked with Broadway lead trumpet player Ravi Best.  Ravi’s new show, "42nd Street," recently won the 2001 Tony award for best revival. Ravi and Dave had to get their mango sorbet fix down in the village after the show – it was Ravi’s birthday!
Ravi Best warms up with his AJNA II Bb trumpet before going on stage.  If you are in New York City and want to see (and hear) a great new Broadway show, check out "42nd Street!"
Dave checked in with Wynton Marsalis on the same trip.  Wynton was busy honing his chess skills against his chess computer between rehearsals and his work on the latest Marsalis composition.  He just about brought the house down in the Louis Armstrong tribute concert, which was broadcast live nationally on PBS as part of the “Live at Lincoln Center” series.
Dave meets with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra trumpet section during the New York part of the their US tour.  The trumpet section sounded great as they tried Monette mouthpieces and the new 2000 LT and 61X C trumpets.
Dave was in New York to work with several clients, including sitting in backstage for the Live at Lincoln Center TV broadcast of the Louis Armstrong concert.  Our friend Wycliffe Gordon started using his new Monette trombone and tuba mouthpieces for the broadcast, and has not put them down since.  Also featured were Monette instrument and mouthpiece clients Ryan Kisor and Seneca Black.  Wynton stole the show however – and if you had your eyes closed you might have thought it was…
Dave and Tom Rolfs (BSO Third Assistant First trumpet and Principal Trumpet of the Boston Pops) backstage at the Boston Symphony Hall.  Tom uses serial # 619 Monette C trumpet.
Backstage during the  Louis Armstrong tribute TV broadcast at Lincoln Center.
Charlie Schlueter with Eric Berlin in the basement of the Boston Symphony hall.  Eric is the principal trumpet of the Albany Symphony Orchestra and a former student of Charlie's.  He was attending one of the Mahler 3 performances, and was the first player other than Charlie to check out the new Posthorn we made for the occasion, as well as the prototype 2000LT C trumpet Dave also had on the trip.
Dave also stopped in at the University of Maryland to give a clinic hosted by Chris Gekker.  Chris is the trumpet professor there and now uses the 2000LT Bb trumpet.   Chris records about as much as anyone we know, and in fact he used the prototype 2000LT C trumpet on a recent European recording date.
The Indian cuisine in New York City is some of the best in the world, so Dave and Broadway lead player Craig Johnson had to stop in and have a bite before a show...
Ryan Kisor, Seneca Black, and Dave Monette at another Indian restaurant across town.  Ryan and Seneca both play with Wynton in the the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra.
