Urban Agnas has a new recording of the Hummel Concerto, recorded with London Mozart Players conducted by Howard Shelley. Urban's musicality and virtuosity are an inspiration - this CD is simply a joy to listen to! Urban asked us about building him an E natural trumpet several months before his trip to London for the recording - however on such short notice we arranged for him to borrow Charlie Schlueter's E natural which was already built and ready to go. We made up a custom E natural mouthpiece in Urban's size for the occasion, adjusted it to the horn, and sent it off to him in Sweden so he could have it for a few weeks before the recording date. If you like the Hummel but are tired of recordings where the intonation or tone of the player made you hit the "off" button, then be sure to check out this recording! Manny Laureano, Principal Trumpet of the Minnesota Orchestra, is well known for the amazing recording several years ago of "Alpine Symphony." His power and mastery of the trumpet is simply amazing. Well, Manny and the crew have done it again. The new Minnesota Orchestra Copland recording is one of the best examples to date of how a trumpet section can sound using large Monette C trumpets. The first three members of the section used AJNA instruments for this recording, and you can hear the depth and clarity immediately! Manny's sparkling sound rings out over the orchestra, with the powerhouse section along with him filling out the sound in a way we love to hear. Good work, Manny, and we hope to hear many more treasures like this from you and the orchestra in the future!
