Flugelhorn Mouthpieces
Great intonation, beautifully resonant sound, consistent timbre and response, wide dynamic spectrum, ease of playing through the full range of the instrument
-
Flugelhorn mouthpieces are designed to play with a dark, rich flugelhorn sound and have deep, V-shaped cups
-
See rim sizes and shank info below
-
Flugelhorn mouthpieces can be made with any Monette rim
-
Most players will choose the same rim that they use on trumpet to make for an easy, comfortable transition between instruments
-
Players who normally use small-diameter lead mouthpieces may want a larger rim size for flugelhorn
-
-
Flugelhorn mouthpieces are made in the modern Resonance FLG body design.
-
Mouthpieces with the 'French Taper' shank are only made in the original FLG mouthpiece body
-
-
Available in either the Classic or Prana internal configuration

Flugelhorn Shank Info
The vast majority of flugelhorns will require one of these three most common shanks:
-
Small (aka 'Bach' shank or Small Morse Taper)
-
indicated on the mouthpiece with '359'
-
-
Large (aka 'Yamaha' shank or Large Morse Taper)
-
indicated on the mouthpiece with '375'
-
-
French (aka 'Couesnon shank' or 'French Taper'
-
indicated on the mouthpiece with 'FT')
-
Note: There is no such thing as a 'standard shank,' but in our experience people who use that phrase are usually referring to the Large shank size.
Less common shanks include:
-
cornet shank (smaller than 'small shank')
-
trumpet shank (larger than 'large shank')
-
'German' or 'European' shank (larger than 'trumpet shank')
If you don't see your flugelhorn on the list or you aren't certain about the shank you need, please contact the shop.
Some instruments will play their best with a non-standard shank size.
If you would like us to determine the optimal shank, you can:
-
bring your flugelhorn to our shop
-
send us your leadpipe or a mouthpiece that fits your horn properly
