| Tiger iron is composed chiefly of tiger's eye, red jasper and black hematite. The contrasting bands of color and luster make it popular in jewelry-making and ornamentation. It is quite soft and crumbles easily, making it difficult to work with - but lovely to admire when cut, polished and inlaid successfully! It is mined primarily in South Africa and Western Australia. |
